SSDI a.k.a. Social Security Disability Insurance is provided in monthly payments to those who qualify by being under 65 years of age and provide qualifying disabilities and sufficient work credits. These credits change on a year-to-year basis and depend on how much you earn and the age you were when you became disabled. To file a claim, you must be able to provide evidence of a disabling condition that prevents you from doing the work you did before being disabled, prevents you from doing other work, has lasted 12 months, or is to end in your untimely death.
SSDI is a monthly benefit that is given to persons that have been deemed disabled and unable to work before reaching retirement age. In several cases, SSDI is not enough to live off of, but many recipients are unaware that they are eligible for even more. Reach out to one of our SSDI lawyers and find out what you qualify for today.
SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
- Are over 65.
- Are blind or disabled.
- Have never worked or have not earned enough work credits to qualify for SSDI.

A person can receive not only SSDI but also SSI concurrently. Depending on whether a person is single or married determines the eligibility of benefits that a person can receive. Benefits can differ from person to person based on income limits. You can view these on the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) website.
Medicare
A health insurance program for those 65 and over. If you have received SSDI benefits for at least two years, you are eligible to receive Medicare. In certain circumstances such as suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease, a person may be able to receive Medicare without meeting all the criteria.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
